History of the development
Untill the building of this airport the capital of the Belarusian SSR was served by the airport «Minsk-1", located in the city. The construction of the new airport «Minsk-2» started in 1977, 40 km from the capital. Construction it was going at a fast pace at that time. Already in 1979 it was put into operation runway of length of 3640 m and width of 60 meters.
In 1981, the airport «Minsk-2» was able to take aircraft, and in 1982 was made the first passenger flight on the TU-134 under the leadership of the commander crew Vasily Alexandrovich Tolstik. So, gradually the airport «Minsk-2» (now Minsk International Airport) began to function.
Tourism potential
