Sluckaya brama
ICONIC PLACES
Description
Slutskaya brama - an original monument of Baroque architecture XVII c. The gate, together with the earthen ramparts adjacent to it on the left and right, was part of the system of city fortifications, protecting the entrance to the city from the Slutsk tract. This is the only gate that has survived to this day leading to thecity of Nesvizh.
Brama has two tiers. The lower one is cut through by an entrance arch a little more than ten meters long. It was closed by a massive gate. On the ground floor there were premises for guards and customs. There is still a board on the wall with the text about paying the marriage tax. The lower tier looks stern and strict, which is emphasized by powerful buttresses - the so-called vertical projections.
The second tier is distinguished by its lightness of architectural forms. On the second floor, behind colored glass, there was a chapel - a chapel. It contained an icon of the Mother of God. According to custom, people came here to venerate the icon before entering the city. On the wall of the chapel there is an inscription: «Give peace, protect us».
The massiveness and narrow windows make the brama look like a miniature fortress, which is what it was, there is a known case when the city was taken, but the guards of the gate did not surrender.
Slutskaya brama is recognized as a monument of international significance.
