Museum of Ethnography in Mogilev was opened in 1981 as a branch of the Mogilev Regional Museum. It was located in a wooden house built in the early twentieth century. Museum halls covers an area of ​​100 square meters. There were presented tools, household items, clothing of peasants of Mogilev province of the nineteenth century - beginning of the twentieth century, samples of decorative art of the second half of the twentieth century. In 1996 it was decided to reorganize and establish a museum of rural and urban life. New exhibition halls are located in an area of ​​700 square meters. The new building is located in the historic part of the city, on its main street. In 1996-1998 team working together to develop the concept of the museum. December 9th, 1999d the exhibition "Native Land cycle" was opene. It shows the life of the peasants in the late XIX - early XX century through the ceremonies and festivals calendar. The area of ​​rooms - 320 sq.m. March 19th, 2004 is the opening of the second exhibition "Mogilev province", dedicated to the life of urban estates of the same period. Rooms occupy an area of ​​380 square meters. Mogilev Ethnography Museum is a branch of the regional museum located on the main street of the city - Pervomayskaya, the house № 8. Opposite the museum is the Regional Drama Theatre.
