History of the development
Urban village Naroch is a settlement that was first mentioned during the construction of the first church in the XV century. Then it was called New Myadel or Kobylnik and belonged to the princes Svirsky. In the XVI century, Albrecht Gasttold, one of the richest people in the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, became the owner of Kobylnik.
In historical documents Kobylnik is not just a villages, but a town. In the XIX and early XX century, it was the economic center of the Naroch region.
During the First World War, 6 km from Kobylnik was the front line. With the advent of Soviet power, Kobylnik became part of the Republic of Lithuania for the first time and then - part of Poland, and since 1939 it was a part of the USSR. In 1940 Kobylnik got the status of a village.
During the Great Patriotic War, the village was under occupation, and was liberated in a result of Bagration Operation. On August 28, 1964 Kobylnik was renamed to Naroch village, which in 2005 received the status of urban village.
Tourism potential
The ancient temples of the XV century in Naroch haven't been saved, today Naroch can represent guests the most beautiful neo-Gothic St. Andrew s Church, built at the end of the XIX century from red brick on the place of an old wooden church. It’s impossible to pass by St. Elia Church, built of natural stone.
In general, Naroch has a well-developed infrastructure, because a lot of guests and residents of Belarus come to excursions, to recreation centers and health resorts of Naroch region all year round.
