History of Creation
The university was founded in 1937 under the name Institute of Physical Culture. The first building of the institute appeared in the late 1930s, designed by architect A. Voinov. It was located at the intersection of Pushkinskaya Street and Logoysky Tract, now known as Yakub Kolas Square. At that time, this structure stood out among the wooden buildings of the Komarovka district, becoming the first multi-story building in the area. In the early 1980s, a new building was constructed on Masherov Avenue (now Pobediteley Avenue). This modern educational complex included spacious auditoriums, specialized sports halls, laboratories, and new infrastructure facilities.
Architecture
The university building combines elements of Soviet classicism and functional modernism. The strict lines of the facade, the monumental structure, and the rational organization of interior spaces make it a prime example of Soviet-era educational architecture. Inside the building, there are classrooms, sports halls, and a modern swimming pool, which is part of the health center "Olimp." In 2006, a Museum of Physical Culture and Sports was opened on the fourth floor of the university building. The museum showcases exhibits that highlight the outstanding achievements of Belarusian athletes, their participation in international competitions, and the Olympic Games.
