Fort No. 1

Fort №1 has been erected in the period from 1913 to 1915 under the project of the military engineer K.N. Dobrozhinsky.
It is a concrete parapet - the mound for the fire and the garrison protection, which was held under the gallery, used for shelter from the shelling. The parapet was surrounded by a deep triangle moat. On the left flank of the moat was started the construction of the coffer - a single defense structure, which did not have time to finish.
Fort stormed by the Germans in February 1915, when Russian troops had to retreat and destroy the fort.
Despite the dilapidated state, the Fort №1 served as a strengthening during the Great Patriotic War. Summer of 1944, there were fierce battles with passing in a counter-offensive SS Panzer Division. Less hundreds of Soviet soldiers a few days kept strengthening, resisting many times for superior in number and armed opponents. Now it is a monument at the ruins of the fort to Soviet soldiers killed in the those fighting.
