Monument to Lenin in Vitebsk
Description
On January, 24 1924 at a memorial meeting of the City Council, it was decided to erect in Vitebsk Lenin monument. Grand opening of the monument took place on November 7, 1930 at Lenin Square. This is the first "big" monument to Lenin in Belarus and one of the first in the Soviet Union. On a small pedestal it was installed the lead figure of the leader with raised right hand. The pedestal also serves as a platform during parades. In the early days of the occupation the monument was blown up. From fragments of lead German soldiers cast washer to play hockey.
The new monument to Lenin on Lenin Square was set in 1956. Its creators are the sculptors G. Arapov, M. Alekseenko and architect P. Yurchenko. The height of the monument is 9 meters. It stands on a pedestal and is lined with polished granite. On the one of the plates it's inscription in Belarusian "Lenіn".
