Description

Art center of Marc Chagall - part of the Marc Chagall Museum in Vitebsk, dedicated to the artist. Established in 1992.

In the center of the art exhibitions of works by Marc Chagall (from the museum collection, as well as from the collections of the artist heirs), and various cultural events. The museum is housed in a two-story brick building built in the late XIX century.

For Belarus, Art center of Marc Chagall is a unique - more than any other museum in the country there is no artist. The museum has a collection of about 300 original graphic works of the artist (lithographs, woodcuts, etchings, aquatint). In 1999, Chagall granddaughter Meret Meyer Graber and Bella Meyer gave the museum the artist s series of illustrations to the Bible, as well as a series of unique etchings of his grandfather in an amount of 96 sheets, which are series of illustrations to the poem of Nikolay Gogol s «Dead Souls».

In 2002 Art Center to open a specialized research library on the works of Chagall s art and the classical avant-garde. Today, the scientific library of the museum has more than three thousand books, among which is a very rare publication of Marc Chagall, works of graphic artists such lottery European avant-garde, as Joan Miro, Pablo Picasso, Alexander Calder, Antoni Tapies, Georges Braque, Fernand Leger, Henri Matisse and others.
