Description

The Square of Liberty is locates in the central part of town. It is bounded by the streets of Gogol and Budenogo. The area was named in 1939. Its former names are the Square of Duma, the Square of Pilsudski, Marshalplats.

The area began to take shape in the first half of the XIX century. It is triangular in shape and built up with mostly two-story houses. When the city was part of the Russian Empire, this area was its administrative center.

The monument in honor of the troops I Belorussian Front that liberated the city from the Nazis was constructed on the Square in 1965.
