The Memorial Complex «Brest Hero-Fortress» Brest region invites:
On 9th May, 2012 there will be solemn events dedicated to Victory Day in the Brest Fortress, where there were fierce battles during the Great Patriotic War. The beginning is at 9 am. Victory Day is time to remember the heroism of Soviet people, who risked their lives, forgot about fear, had no doubts and did everything possible and impossible to save the Motherland from the Nazi invaders.

Brest Fortress is one of the largest tourist attractions in Belarus. It was built in the first half of the XIX century at the intersection of the Western Bug River and the Mukhavets River. It went down in world history as a place of unparalleled human courage and heroism.

On 22nd June, 1941 Nazi Germany began the war against the Soviet Union. The military garrison located in Brest Fortress took the first blows of the Nazis and managed to defend more than a month while it was totally surrounded by enemies. After the war, the fortress was given the honorary title «Hero-Fortress» for bravery in battle of its defenders.

Today Brest Fortress is a symbol of resistance and defiance of Belarusian people. The architectural and sculptural ensemble of the memorial includes the main monument «Courage», a bayonet-obelisk, the sculpture «Thirst», the Ceremonial square, three rows of commemorative burial plaques, ruins and survived buildings of the fortress, as well as a museum.

Celebrations program on 9th May, 2012 in Brest:

• 9 am - gathering and formation of marchers
• 10 am - marchers start to move to the Memorial complex «Brest Hero-Fortress»
• 11 am - a solemn demonstration dedicated to Victory Day
• 11 am - City Brass Band performance with the program «Roads of Victory»
• 12 am - Citi Junior Groups performancies and a holiday of Heroes of Brest Fortress Defense street
• 3 pm - concerts of creative amateur collectives of City House of Culture
• 5 pm - holiday celebrations «It was the 41st, but was. And there always will be the 45th»
• 8 am - City Brass Band concert «Salute of Victory»
• 10 - firework
