Historical and cultural values of Belarus

Historical and cultural potential of Belarus is represented by architecture, urban planning, history, archeology, art, park complexes, museum and book collections. Today the list of historical and cultural values of the Republic of Belarus includes 4811 historical and cultural values, with 4694 material immovable historical and cultural values, among them - 1655 objects of architecture, 1125 objects of history, 1857 objects of archeology and 57 objects of art.

In accordance with the material properties of historical and cultural values that are included into the State list, they can be divided into four categories:

«0» - the historical and cultural values included or proposed for inclusion into the UNESCO World Heritage site;

«1» - the most unique historical and cultural values with artistic, aesthetic and documentary qualities of international interest;

«2» - the historical and cultural values that characterize the most distinctive features of historical and cultural heritage of the country;

«3» - the historical and cultural values that characterize the distinctive features of historical and cultural heritage of certain regions of the country.

The category «0» in the state list have 9 objects. They are a palace and park ensemble and Jesuits monastery complex in Niasvizh, Boris and Gleb (Kalozha) Church in Grodno, the August Channel, church of defensive type in the village Synkovichy, the castle complex «Mir», the Struve Geodetic Arc (21 points) on the territory of Brest region, the Kamenets Tower, Transfiguration Church in Polotsk, Palace and Park Ensemble in Gomel.

The category «1» have 42 objects. Among them - the historical center of Minsk and Grodno, the Brest fortress complex, the Jesuit collegium in Polotsk, the Chechersk Town Hall, Leeds Castle, the parts of Novogrudok castle and etc.

The category «2» have 562 objects. Among them there are the historical centers of Brest, Pinsk, Kobryn, Polotsk, Trinity Catholic Church in the village Ishkold, a fortified church in the village Murovanka, St. Sophia Cathedral in Polotsk, St. John Catholic Church in the village Kamai and many others.

The most important objects of the Republic of Belarus are included into the list of the UNESCO World Heritage . They are - the palace complex «Mir» in Grodno region, the architectural and cultural complex of the Radziwill's estate in Niasvizh, two transboundary objects - the Belovezhskaya Pushcha and the Struve Geodetic Arc. Soon «August Channel - the creation of man and nature» with the cooperation with Poland can be included into the list of objects having high value.
