History and Legends
Until the early 20th century, this place was known as Mount Biznya. However, during geodetic work, a triangulation tower was installed on its peak, which locals soon began calling a "beacon." This name took hold and became official. There is an opinion that even in ancient times, the mountain was used as a natural landmark, and its height allowed for observations of the surrounding area for many kilometers around.
Various legends are also associated with the mountain. According to one of them, ancient pagan rituals and ceremonies were conducted here. Local residents claimed that mysterious signs could be seen on the water surface of the lakes from the summit, and sometimes even enigmatic lights could be observed. This mystical aura makes Mount Mayak not only a natural but also a cultural symbol of the region.
