In 2008 two more monuments were founded in Bobruisk: a copy of the beaver from the courtyard of Moscow (Russia) and a beaver-plumber.
Beaver monument
Description
All cities have their own history. Many of them grow from small villages and towns among fields, forests and rivers. Bobruisk is not an exception. It is one of the largest cities in Belarus. It was founded in a beautiful place - on the River Berezina. Once upon a time there was a small village. Its local citizens were skilled fishermen and prefered beaver hunting. Therefore, according to some historians, the town got its name «Bobruisk».
In 2006 a beaver became an informal symbol of the city of Bobruisk. The author of the sculpture was V.Gavrilenko. The monument was placed in one of the busiest places in the city - close to the local market. The sculpture is made of bronze. Its hight is 1.70 m. The beaver has a coat and a hat. According to the author of the sculpture, the beaver is an ironic image of an average inhabitant of Bobruisk of the beginning of the XX century. Locals belive that anyone who rubs a beaver”s watch-chain or touches its nose, will find good luck and wealth.
