History of Construction
The church was built in the 18th century and has been reconstructed multiple times since then. Initially, there may have been an even older church on this site, but no precise records of it have survived. Throughout numerous wars and political changes, the church experienced different phases—from prosperity to the threat of destruction. However, local residents have always taken care of the sanctuary, and thanks to their efforts, the church has been preserved to this day.
Architecture of the Church
Verkholesskaya St. Michael’s Church is a classic example of Belarusian wooden architecture. It was built without the use of nails, making it a unique architectural heritage site. The church follows a traditional three-part composition: the main building, the bell tower, and the altar section. The main facade is adorned with delicate wooden carvings, while the interior paintings have been preserved in their original form.
