Architecture and Interior
The Church of Saints Peter and Paul in Traby is a fine example of 18th-century folk wooden architecture. The church has an elongated shape, resembling a ship, which was typical for churches of that time. The main façade is adorned with decorative turrets with faceted tops at the corners, giving the building a distinctive and unique appearance. The interior was decorated in the early 20th century, and in 1901 a carved two-tier iconostasis made of lacquered oak was installed. This iconostasis was crafted in Vilnius and was carried to Traby by the parishioners themselves, who took turns transporting it by hand over a distance of about 80 km. This story highlights the deep devotion of the local community to their faith and church.
