A monument on the site of the battle in 1812 in Vorony

The monument was built to commemorate the victory of the Russian troops over the French in 1812. After a brief battle on October 26, Napoleon’s troops set fire to the bridge over the Western Dvina and retreated from Vitebsk. Russian soldiers, with the support of local residents, managed to extinguish the fire, cross the river, and continue pursuing the enemy. Near the village of Vorony, a detachment of Uhlans under the command of Colonel Stolypin engaged in battle with the French, resulting in the enemy’s defeat and the capture of 400 soldiers, several officers, and General Pouché.
