History of Creation
The history of the Annunciation Church spans almost a thousand years. According to legend, the church was built during the times of the Principality of Polotsk by the order of Prince Vseslav the Sorcerer. Originally, it was a stone church constructed in the Byzantine style, making it unique for the region. In the 13th-17th centuries, the church repeatedly suffered from wars and fires, and in the 18th century, it was destroyed. Only at the end of the 20th century did restoration work begin. As a result of the reconstruction, completed in 1998, the church regained its historical appearance and once again became a place of worship.
Architecture and Spiritual Life
The Annunciation Church is an example of ancient Rus' architecture. It was built in a cross-dome style characteristic of Byzantium, with massive walls and strict proportions. The interior has preserved fragments of the ancient masonry, and the walls are adorned with icons and frescoes. The church functions as an Orthodox place of worship, where regular services and religious holidays take place. Many tourists and pilgrims come here to experience the atmosphere of antiquity and spiritual serenity.
