History of the monument's installation
The monument was unveiled in 1982 in the park on Mickiewicz Street, near the Corpus Christi Church and the presbytery building. The authors of the project were sculptor Sviatlana Harbunova and architect Yury Kazakou. Who was Symon Budny?
Symon Budny was an outstanding humanist, philosopher, publicist, and educator, as well as an active participant in the Reformation movement in the Grand Duchy of Lithuania. Nesvizh played a special role in his life, as he established a publishing activity there. In the early 1560s, together with Matvei Kavechinsky and Laurenty Krishkovsky, he founded a printing house, where in 1562, he published the first book in the territory of Belarus in the Old Belarusian language — "Catechism." Budny also published the work "On the Justification of a Sinful Man Before God" and several other books here.
Description of the monument
The monument is a bronze full-height statue of Symon Budny, 2.85 meters high, standing on a granite pedestal 0.65 meters high. In one hand, he holds a book with a sun emblem — a symbol of knowledge and enlightenment. The statue is designed in a monumental style: large volumes, a calm pose, and rhythmic folds of clothing emphasize the grandeur of the figure. The pedestal bears an inscription in Belarusian: "СЫМОН БУДНЫ."
